The popular porn website Pornhub has made its premium services free till April 3. Initially the offer was restricted to covid hotspots Italy, Spain, and France, but noe the service has been made free all over the world.

PornHub has has also announced that it will be donating a portion of its income to helping out with the coronavirus crisis.

Pornhub also released a chart showing how porn viewing has increased at the time of lockdown.

A Mississippi legislator has introduced two bills that would ban all online porn completely.

The bills authored by Republican Representative Tracy Arnold would not only ban porn in Mississippi but also would create a coalition of Southern states where the porn ban would apply. Other states would need to join in the legislation, but among those Arnold's bill targets would be Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and Oklahoma.

The states would join to create what one of the bills, HB 1116 , calls an Area of Moral Decency.

Arnold's companion bill, HB 1120 , would bar social media platforms from carrying advertisements for obscene and pornographic content.

Now a landmark case has resulted in a small victory that may challenge the constitutionality of the 2015 laws.

Charges against a London, Ontario couple, Tiffany Harvey and Hamad Anwar, who were arrested in 2015 following a raid on their business, Fantasy World Escorts, have been stayed following a landmark decision by Judge Thomas McKay that the charges are unconstitutional. In his decision, McKay noted, legislation for which the stated purposes include eliminating exploitation and reducing the risk of violence to sex workers actually has the effect of exposing sex workers to an increased risk of exploitation.

Harvey and Anwar were tried for charges which prohibit the procuring, advertising and materially benefiting from someone else's sexual services.

Although legal analysts suggest the Crown will appeal McKay's decision, the ruling nonetheless denotes a landmark case regarding sex workers' rights, one which could set a precedent for future cases.

Chatbots posing as sex workers engaged 15,000 people in conversations between 2016 and 2018 in response to a fake advert triggered by a search for sex online.

During a two-year period, a moralist campaign group, Seattle Against Slavery posted fake online adverts that connected people with chatbots that initially posed as sex workers, before delivering a deterrence message. The campaign, which also involved placing more than 2m Google adverts warning people of the risks of buying sex online, led to a 50% decline in online searches for keywords such as teen escort.

Robert Beiser, former executive director at Seattle Against Slavery, who is presenting the findings at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Seattle on Friday, said: In a fairly short length of time we were able to reach hundreds of thousands of people who had searched for common terms. In Seattle, we were able to impact the marketplace pretty dramatically.

Between 2016 and 2018 the organisation also began to post fake ads apparently offering sex that would appear in response to keyword searches. These would contain a mobile number to text, which would trigger a chatbot designed to pose as a sex worker. Beiser said that developing the chatbot was quite straightforward because the conversations were so repetitive. There were lots of 'Hello, where are you? What do you do? Where can I meet you?', he said. The chatbot would sometimes add a little bit more colour to the conversation.

Amsterdam Council has banned guided tours that take groups around the city's red-light district gawping at sex workers behind windows.

Israeli authorities issued administrative orders shutting down three strip clubs in Tel Aviv, following State Prosecution guidelines under which lap dancing is claimed to be prostitution and buying it is a criminal offence.

Closure orders were issued to the Baby Dolls, Shendu and GoGo clubs. The administrative order allows for the immediate closure of the clubs for 30 days, as police investigate their activities. When the order expires, in accordance with the findings of the investigation, the police and prosecution can decide whether to ask the court to extend it. There is now only one other strip club openly operating in Israel.

According to a law enforcement source, after the guidelines were issued by former State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan, the club owners were warned about the need to revamp their operations before being shut down. Prosecutors said in a statement:

The leader of a political party called Thai Civilized has proposed That Thailand should permit regulated and licensed brothels and sex toy shops. Several politicians have now agreed with the idea of legalising pornography and sex toys, saying that they may help reduce incidences of sexual assault.

Treerat Sirichantaropas, spokesman of the House committee tasked with combating rape and secretary of Pheu Thai Plus, a party think tank, said in a Facebook post on Monday that he believed legalising pornography and sex toys will help reduce sexual assault cases in the country. He wrote:

Legalising [pornography and sex toys] might be the solution ... as it would make the means of channeling sexual desires more easily available.

It is all commendable reasoning but of course will make no practical difference. Whether legal or not brothels are already tolerated and are found throughout Thailand. And of course Thailand has good internet connections, so porn is also widely available anyway. However there are no sex shops in Thailand although a few basic sex toys make be found in markets.

Yaroslav Suris is suing the popular porn site Pornhub claiming it's denied the deaf and hearing-impaired access to its videos that others can easily enjoy.

According to docs, obtained by TMZ, Suris says a lack of closed-captioning violates their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Suris says the deaf and hearing impaired can't understand the audio portion of videos on the websites.

Pornhub's VP, Corey Price, told TMZ:

... We understand that Yaroslav Suris is suing Pornhub for claiming we've denied the deaf and hearing impaired access to our videos. While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we'd like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category.

Vermont State Representative Selene Colburn has repsonded to the plight of sex workers whose lives (and incomes) have suffered drastically by federal and state government attempts to help them through legislation like SESTA/FOSTA and local human trafficking ordinances. She has introduced a bill that would decriminalize sex-for-pay between consenting adults, while at the same time making penalties worse for child sex traffickers.

Colburn's bill, H.B. 569, would completely repeal the state's current prostitution law and replace it with a new law retaining only those sections involving minors or trafficking.

The bill, which has four co-sponsors and is currently being considered by the House Judiciary Committee, would, if passed, make Vermont only the second state in the Union to have legalized adult sex work--but its proponents still have their work cut out for them. Assuming the bill survives the judiciary committee, it still has to be passed by both the full House and Senate, and while Democrats and Progressives.

Cyber-security researchers claim that highly sensitive personal details about thousands of porn stars have been exposed online by an adult website.

They told BBC News they had found an open folder on PussyCash's Amazon web server that contained 875,000 files.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said that he will legislate if necessary to get parental controls in place to block kids from porn. He said in a speech to UNESCO:

We do not take a 13-year-old boy to a sex-shop, not anything goes in the digital world.

We will clarify in the penal code that the simple fact of declaring one's age online is not a strong enough protection against access to pornography by minors.

The measure will give the websites a period of six months to set up parental control by default . I know it hurts a lot of platforms, a lot of digital operators, but if in six months we have no solution, we will pass a law for automatic parental control.
