Marsha's immature, animalistic husband neglects and mistreats her. She is driven
to embark on an affair with a romantic Frenchman, but this likewise ends unhappily. Floundering, she sets out to write a series of love and sex novels.
She consults a woman doctor who is considered an authority on the subject of
sexuality, and the doctor promptly seduces her. She uses her experiences as the basis for her novels but is finally unable to continue writing; and she takes her own life.
